If there’s one constant issue across elections in Nevada and beyond, it’s that misinformation — either unintended or nefarious — pops up every time around Election Day.
That’s why The Nevada Independent is partnering with the Center for Media Engagement, a nonpartisan, nonprofit analysis group at The University of Texas at Austin, to reply questions from our neighborhood and clear up misinformation about elections.
Taking the lead on this Local Election Information Monitoring project is Eric Neugeboren, The Indy’s politics and information reporter who (among his many other beats) has accomplished really glorious work in protecting how the state administers elections. We’re also taking suggestions and translating solutions into Spanish.
But we need your help. As half of this project, we’re testing out a new neighborhood device where readers can inform us about online posts, political mailers or other varieties of native election data that might be incorrect or that raises questions. This could embrace issues like social media posts with incorrect data about where to vote, how to vote and election processes.
We won’t report on or reply to every submission, but we will review them all to look for trends and to see if they raise questions that need to be answered — and could doubtlessly lead to a information story.
