Slow Horses Season 1 finds River, Sid, and the relaxation of Slough House racing to rescue a kidnapped pupil. But Episode 1 also sees River and Sid surveilling journalist Robert Hobden (Paul Hilton), which finally takes a darkish flip. The pilot not only established how much trust Lamb (Sir Gary Oldman) had in Sid, but also gave glimpses at Sid and River’s compelling dynamic. Before we could be taught more about Sid’s position at Slough House or Taverner’s project, the two saw someone break into Hobden’s home and raced in to save him. River went inside while Sid coated the entrance door, and though River rescued the journalist, when his attacker raced outside, a gunshot was fired, and River discovered Sid took a bullet to the head. As she was bleeding out on Hobden’s stoop, River called an ambulance, and Lamb revealed in Episode 3 that “she might live.”
In Episode 4, River snuck into the hospital and discovered Sid in a coma in her hospital mattress. And in Episode 6, Lamb informed a devastated River that she’d handed, assuring him, “I won’t forget Sid. Besides, she was the only one of you.”
